We’re bringing AI and species protection to roadside maintenance.
BIODIV.AI digitalises and optimises the ecological management of roadside vegetation.
BIODIV.AI digitalises and optimises the ecological management of roadside vegetation.
The system collects mowing data directly from the maintenance vehicle, or uses historical datasets, analyses them using AI, and automatically generates species-friendly mowing plans.
The characteristic “chessboard pattern” of alternating cut and uncut strips creates flower corridors, refuges, and habitats for insects while maintaining full traffic safety.
This turns the goals of Bavaria’s “Save the Bees” initiative into daily operational practice.
BIODIV.AI stands for efficient operations management, measurable climate benefits, and sustainable biodiversity along public roads and green spaces.
Why we need to rethink roadside maintenance:
- Roadside green areas are vital habitats for wild bees, butterflies, and rare plant species.
- Traditional mowing destroys ecological structures and nesting sites.
- Climate change increases maintenance requirements and reduces vegetation resilience.
- Planning and documentation are often manual, inconsistent, and non-transparent.
- Ecological objectives are rarely embedded in operational workflows.
AI-powered mowing planning in the portal. The intelligent starting point of ecological roadside management
With BIODIV.AI, every smart mowing operation begins in one place: the MOBIDAT portal.
Here, the system processes all available data. GNSS tracks, vegetation layers, maintenance zones, historical mowing cycles, and ecological protection periods. Using these datasets, the AI automatically generates structured maintenance sections and precise mowing plans in the characteristic chessboard or staggered pattern used for biodiversity-friendly roadside management.
The planning engine evaluates flowering periods, species protection requirements, and safety-related sightlines, while simultaneously optimizing travel paths and machine runtimes. This creates maintenance operations that are ecologically beneficial, technically reliable, and economically efficient. A core principle of modern Smart-City and GovTech infrastructure management.
Once computed, the mowing plans are transmitted directly to the equipment carriers. Operators receive clear guidance on the WorkPad tablet: route navigation, lane instructions, safety alerts, and fully automated documentation.
Throughout the entire process, the portal acts as the central control room for planning, compliance reporting, and ecological performance monitoring. It transforms data-driven insights into tangible improvements for roadside habitats.
A seamless workflow: planned in the portal, executed in the field, visible in the results.
Our Features
BIODIV.AI combines intelligent multi-boom mowing technology, AI-driven planning, and a holistic ecological strategy.
The AI evaluates vegetation, structure, flowering phases, protection periods, and maintenance needs, automatically generates lane plans, and transfers all instructions in real time. Includuding automated documentation.
The result: ecologically valuable and economically efficient roadside vegetation management.
Key benefits:
- Protection of insects and sensitive habitats
- Preservation of flowering areas
- Full traffic safety through targeted sightline maintenance
- Reduced workload for municipalities and contractors
- Automated documentation for compliance and reporting
Impact at a glance:
- Less mowing = lower CO₂ emissions & reduced resource consumption
- AI reduces planning time and operational effort
- Over +200% more insects in areas maintained with the chessboard method
- Protection of rare and endangered species
